Why We Created Atelic: Listening Before Building in the Age of Generative AI

Romain Picard · 8 September 2025

In every relationship whether with a doctor, a therapist, or even a life partner the first step is always the same "to listen". Without listening, there can be no understanding, no trust, and no meaningful action.

And yet, in the world of technology we often forget this. Generative AI is booming, new models and platforms appear almost weekly, and the pace of innovation is breathtaking. But the real challenge for organizations is not knowing that AI matters, it’s knowing how to make it matter for them.

Too often, solutions are pushed into the market without truly understanding the industries, the contexts, and the real problems leaders face every day. Vendors speak before they listen.

This realization became the foundation on which my partners and I co-founded Atelic. Because we believe something essential is missing in today’s AI revolution "the ability to listen".

Listening as the Starting Point

When we started Atelic, our first conversations weren’t about which large language model to use or which frameworks to adopt. They were about people, about industries, about the frustrations we had seen first-hand, leaders being shown tools instead of being heard, employees being asked to adapt to systems that didn’t fit the way they actually work.

We asked ourselves a simple question, what if we reversed the order? What if we started by listening, deeply and consistently, before even thinking of proposing a solution?

That shift in perspective is where the magic happens. When a client feels genuinely heard, when they sense you understand the heart of their problem, they begin to share what really matters. And that is the foundation of solutions that create impact and return on investment.

The Meaning of “Atelic”

Even our name reflects this philosophy. “Atelic” comes from a term that means nothing is ever truly finished. Everything evolves, adapts, and grows.

And in the world of generative AI, nothing could be truer. Technology moves at incredible speed. A system that feels cutting-edge today can be outdated tomorrow. If you cling to the tool, you will always be behind.

But if you anchor yourself in listening, in adaptation, in an ongoing dialogue with your clients and their industries, then you build something far more resilient "trust".

That is what Atelic is meant to embody.

Specialization Matters

Most of the players in generative AI today are technology-first. They showcase their models, their platforms, their capabilities. And while that’s exciting, it leaves a gap. The gap between raw technology and the real, messy, specific needs of industries.

Atelic is intentionally different, we focus on verticals healthcare, finance, automotive, retail, and beyond. Because every industry has its own language, its own rules, its own pain points.

And there is another vertical we consider absolutely critical that are governments and public organizations. Ministries, agencies, and state bodies are, in our view, the true guarantors of security, health, and the overall organization of society. They play a fundamental role in building a sense of well-being and trust within communities.

Yet, these organizations often face even greater complexity, fragmented processes, heavy structures, and the constant pressure of public responsibility. They need tailored support more than ever. At Atelic, we dedicate significant energy to understanding their unique challenges, because helping them succeed means helping society as a whole to thrive.

Our ambition, therefore, is not just to deliver technology. It is to stand as a trusted advisor helping clients, whether private or public, navigate both the rapid changes in technology and the evolving challenges of their industries and societies.

The Best of Both Worlds

Atelic is not only about empathy and listening. We combine this philosophy with the best technologies and highly skilled people.

On the technical side, we work with cutting-edge tools and frameworks, and on the human side, we bring in experts who deeply understand both AI and industry-specific challenges. This is why we are convinced that the time for true co-development has come. With empathy, listening, and knowledge of our clients’ worlds, we can finally create solutions that are not only powerful but truly relevant.

More Than Technology: A Human Journey

Atelic was never just a technological project. It has always been at its core, a human journey. We built it so our employees feel part of something meaningful, where their voices count.

We designed it as a place where partners collaborate and co-create. We envisioned it as an environment where clients are not just recipients of solutions, but contributors to them. Because if there’s one conviction that unites us, it’s this: sustainable value can only be created when listening, adaptation, and human expertise are at the center.

Listening Before Showing

So here’s our promise: at Atelic, we don’t start with a demo. We don’t show up with a pre-packaged solution.

We start with a conversation.

To the leaders, decision-makers, and innovators reading this, before you ask us to show you what we’ve built, give us the chance to listen to your world, your needs, and your challenges.

After all, isn’t that what we expect from our doctors, our therapists, even our life partners? That they offer us space to be heard, before they try to respond.

At Atelic, we believe the same applies to technology. And that’s why we always begin with an open ear. This is the journey we’re on, if it resonates with you, we’d love to hear your story.
